How I got scouted – Emila January 2025

Emilia is currently spending time in Asia but she found some time to tell us her story on how she has been scouted and how her career started.

How were you scouted or discovered?

I was 18 years old when I was scouted while out shopping with my friends. We had just stepped out of a clothing store when a woman approached me, introduced herself, and said she was from a modeling agency. She asked if I’d be interested in modeling, and I immediately said yes. She handed me her card, and we later arranged a meeting at the agency.

That meeting was life-changing. It opened the door to a career that I would come to love and dedicate myself to for many years and many years to come. Modeling has become such an important part of my life – not just professionally, but personally too. It’s given me opportunities I never imagined, allowed me to express myself creatively, and even build a career where I’ve been able to support myself doing something I’m passionate about. I’m so grateful for the way that moment shaped my path and the journey it’s led me on.

How did your family and friends react when they found out you were starting a career in modeling?

My family and friends were incredibly excited for me. They were so supportive, especially when I had the opportunity to travel to Milan and live there while modeling. After that first trip to Milan, I’ve had the chance to return several times and have also lived months at a time in other countries like Paris, Barcelona, Portugal. I’m so grateful for their encouragement and support throughout this journey.

What advice would you give to young models who are just starting after being scouted?

The advice I would give to young models is to stay true to yourself and not give in to the unrealistic ideals or pressures of the industry. Don’t change who you are to fit in. Believe in yourself and dare to challenge yourself, even when it feels scary – that’s how you grow and discover your true potential.

What was your first modeling job, and how did it feel?

My very first job was walking the runway for Roberto Cavalli. At first, I couldn’t believe I had landed the job – it felt surreal. I was nervous, excited, and incredibly grateful. It was an amazing start to my career.
